What is KidsCast?
KidsCast is a radio news program featuring stories written and reported by kids... for kids. The program is produced by The Missourinet --a statewide radio news network-- in cooperation with the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
Who is eligible to submit a story?
Any student in grades 1 through 12 can submit a story to KidsCast.
What topics can be reported?
Almost any subject is fair game for KidsCast. A good starting point is, "Would other kids be interested in hearing this story?" We expect to receive stories on a wide range of topics, from human interest stories ("My best friend speaks Japanese") to current events ("Why Black History Month is important for us all.") The best guide for what our producers are looking for will be the examples provided by other reporters. We'll archive each week's KidsCast as well as the individual stories submitted by kids from throughout the state.
How long should the story be?
Approximately 100 words or less. Like any newscast, KidsCast will be comprised of a number of stories and a story of 100 words should take less than a minute to read.
How should the story be submitted?
Stories may be submitted online here at KidsCastRadio.com; you may email your story; or you can snail-mail stories to: KidsCast; Attention: Amy Crane Winder, 505 Hobbs Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109 Phone: 573/556-1235. All stories are reviewed before appearing online.
Do I need permission from my parents?
Yes. All stories should be accompanied by a signed permission slip. If you email your story copy, you'll need to send the permission slip along by mail or fax.
When will my story be on the radio?
Each story will be available on this web site, even if it isn't selected for the radio program. There will probably be some delay between the time you submit a story and it is added to this web site, depending on the volume of stories received.
Where can I hear KidsCast on the radio?
You can listen to KidsCast on one of these fine radio stations. Check with your local radio station and if they aren't airing KidsCast but would like to, have them call Kasie Zimmerman or Scott Brandon at 573.893.7200.
